COMMUNITY PRIORITIES – PROGRESS REVIEW for 2024

At the Annual Parish Meeting on 9th May 2024 the Parish Council highlighted Community priorities.  The following summarises actions/progress in each of these areas during 2024:

1.           Protecting and enhancing our natural and community spaces and leisure facilities for greater enjoyment by residents and visitors – installation of new play equipment at the Recreation Ground; installation of new football goals at the Recreation Ground and marking of football pitch to promote sport in the village; agreement for Waltham Wolves football team to hire the football pitch and encourage participation of younger residents; defining a requirement and seeking quotations from contractors to make external improvements to the pavilion; maintaining all Parish Council owned “green spaces” and seeking a single contractor to standardise quality of grass-cutting and general maintenance; engaging with landowner to enable continued use of permissive access around the field adjacent to the Recreation Ground; seeking a contractor to improve Union Lane car park.

2.           Increased focus on protecting the environment – support to Sustainable Droxford with two specific externally funded projects to re-nature a field to encourage wildlife and creation of a visually impactful wildflower area; supporting bodies working to protect the River Meon and where appropriate engaging with relevant authorities to emphasise the potentially damaging impact of development/vehicle use upon this rare resource; organising twice yearly community litter-picks; encouraging recycling; regular engagement with WinACC to pursue appropriate projects to reduce waste and carbon emissions; ongoing discussions to determine feasibility of provision of Electric Vehicle Charging Points.

3.           Enhancing the sense of a safe, supportive and connected community – regular meetings with HCC Highways to determine possible measures to reduce speeding; use of Speed Limit Reminder device; installation of white gates on entrances to the village to reinforce 30mph speed limits;  agreement with landowner to maintain permissive access for walkers around “School Field”; engagement with Droxford School; supporting a talk by Bishops Waltham Men’s Shed to stimulate local interest; attendance at Central Meon Valley Traffic and Transport Forum; PC stall at Country Fair giving opportunity for raising issues; supporting defibrillator training and maintaining relevant equipment; grants to Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Home-Start charities; agreement to a new grant effective FY 25/26 for Meon Valley Community Bus Association; convening a Highways Public Forum on Saturday 8th February 2025.

In 2023, Droxford Parish Council was delighted to win Best Small Village in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The application is attached below.
